Important Information You Need To Know

Bonsai: The things you need to know

Because you showed interest in the beautiful world of Bonsai. That list intends to show you important information you need to know, step by step. (We love being used.)

If you ever have any questions during this process, you can reply to any of the messages as I encourage you to be interactive with me.

Task # 1 Get your tools ready.

Pot: A tree is just a tree, and a pot is just a pot, no more, no less. It is only when these two elements are brought together in perfect balance that a tree is considered a Bonsai. One of the most fascinating aspects of Bonsai is how it deals with trees that have been transplanted into containers rather than their natural habitat.

Soil: Water retention must be excellent This is important information you need to know. Water must be able to sink into the soil and be held there long enough to give the Bonsai with hydration between waterings. But excessive water retention might harm your tree. A layer of lava rock is used as a base, and the holes on the bottom of the pot will allow the excess water to drain.

Drainage is good. The pot must be able to quickly drain any excess water. If the roots are kept wet for an extended period of time, the bonsai tree will die. The accumulation of salts is more likely in soils that do not drain well enough or have inadequate aeration.

A considerable amount of air flow.

An ideal Bonsai mix has large enough particles to allow for little air spaces between each one. Roots benefit from these air spaces because they allow for the growth of beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae. Food may be processed before it is absorbed by the roots and supplied to the leaves for photosynthesis.

Tools: Bonsai training and maintenance would be impossible without the right tools. The trees must be precisely trimmed, with a certain profile and neat, even edges, by you. Investing in a decent concave cutter and a conventional shear as a starter set is highly recommended for those just getting started. Bonsai requires increasingly specialized tools as you get more involved with the practice.

Tools needed for Bonsai
  • Placement: Many considerations (such as the environment where you live, the season, etc.) must be taken into account when determining the best location for your Bonsai plants. However, the most important information you need is whether or not your Bonsai is an interior or an outdoor tree.

You can go ahead and source those out yourself or use the same tools that I am using. Check out our community only list of tools and supplies from Bonsai Boy of New York.

If you want to go along with the “copy me” model (which I recommend), then go ahead and get those tools. Then you will have everything that you need

and are using the same tools that I am using throughout this course.

Once you have the tools let me know (just reply to this) and we’ll get started.

I just published a new post
