Predatory Plants Shop Review: If you live in the United States and are interested in trying your hand at caring for a carnivorous plant, be sure to look into Predatory plants. They sell a wide variety of carnivorous plants, including flytraps, pitcher plants, sundews, and more.
Because wild collection is unethical and illegal, Dean’s Quality Plants does not sell any plants that have been harvested from the wild.
To whom do predatory plants refer?
Predatory Plants is a company based in California that specializes in carnivorous plants, and I believe they are the best place to buy carnivorous plants online in The States.
Founder Josh Brown started growing and selling plants before quitting his job in 2015 to pursue the business full-time. Since then, Predatory Plants has grown to a team of eight, and they now post carnivorous plants across the country for like-minded predatory plant enthusiasts.
They focus on propagating their plants or sourcing them from reputable nurseries. Meaning they never source plants from the wild, which can hurt local habitats and animals.
What Locations Do Predatory Plants Cover?
Predatory Plants ship within the United States via USPS mail, so you should expect to receive your plant within 1 week of ordering. Delivery times using this approach are the quickest of all the main services, and they’re also quite dependable.
Our Predatory Plants Shop review discovered that in most In most cases, orders will be sent and delivered within 7 business days.
Since they don’t ship on the weekends and wouldn’t be able to complete the shipping process if they began late in the week, orders that come in on Thursdays or Fridays (or sometimes late in the day on Wednesday) are generally processed the following Monday.
The Pros and Cons of Owning Carnivorous Plants
PROS
- The team at Predatory Plants really cares about the life of their plants long after they leave the nursery, and therefore, they have created countless plant care guides to help new carnivorous plant owners get to grips with their new plants.
- Alongside their $7 flat fee for shipping, the company offers a live-arrival guarantee, so you know your plants will arrive alive, or you get store credit to repurchase the plant.
CONS
- Unfortunately, due to the nature of the shipping requirements, Predatory Plants can’t accept plant returns on any items.
- Predatory Plants only have one physical store in California. However, they provide photographs and details of each plant variety so you can have a pretty good idea of what you purchase before it arrives.
Who Can Own Carnivorous Plants?
Depending on their genus, the plants will have various water, light, soil, and temperature requirements, so rely on this predatory plants shop review and check out the website carefully to ensure you can provide the optimal conditions for them to grow. Fortunately, you can get carnivorous houseplants and outdoor plants, so you can grab a predatory plant even if you live in a flat or apartment!
According to the Predatory Plants website, none of the plants they sell are toxic to people or animals, so anyone could, theoretically, own a carnivorous plant. However, you may wish to stick to a non-carnivorous plant such as a bonsai if you are vegetarian or not sure how you would feel witnessing a bug being consumed by the plants.
Most Popular Carnivorous Plants From our Predatory Plants shop review
The Tropical Pitcher Plants are among the most popular and sought-after carnivorous plants on the Predatory Plants website. The Predatory Plants website sells countless varieties of Pitcher Plants, aka the Nepenthes plants, so that you can choose your favorite. Of all the types of carnivorous plants, a personal favorite of mine is the hybrid Nepenthes Righteous Vision ($19.99), as it has attractive speckles and grows quickly under the right conditions.
Alongside Venus Fly Traps and the Sundews. And you can start your collection strong with their Carnivorous Plant Beginner Collection, which includes one of each of the previously mentioned plants for just $39.99!
Other starter packs from Predatory Plants include their Flytrap bundle with 3 unique flytrap varieties of a few colors and sizes and their indoor carnivorous plants starter set and outdoor carnivorous plants starter set, all of which have 5-star ratings from previous customers, and our predatory plant shop review.
Personal Experience With Predatory Plants
Ok, it’s all very well and good talking about the most popular predatory plants for sale. Still, I’m sure you want to hear about a real experience with the company, and why I’m writing this review. Fortunately, I can testify that I have had a lot of success ordering from Predatory Plants myself!
I purchased their ‘B52’ Venus Fly Trap (currently priced at $16.99 at the time of writing) which is classed as one of their beginner-friendly carnivorous plants. And I am pleased to report that my Venus Fly Trap is doing really well (although some of the insects in my greenhouse may disagree).
Of course, this is one of the predatory plants I recommend as a first-timer as it is one of the most well-known and impressive; however, you can take a peek at their other beginner-friendly carnivorous plants.
